Shane Simpson, a local gun shop owner admitted to illegally supplying 279 firearms, including Desert Eagles and Glocks to multiple people, including underworld bosses, between 2013 and 2019.
He was arrested in April on 147 charges.
Simpson said he had been “pushed and pushed for a long time”
He claims that he “wasn’t doing it because [he] wanted to do it” but that he “just wanted to make sure [his] family is going to be OK”.
Court document reveal the intricate scheme Simpson had devised to conceal the movement of the firearms. He would update the NSW Firearms Registry to reflect the sales of these guns to interstate arms dealers, who were not complicit in the operation. Then proceed to use an angle grinder to remove the identification from these weapons.
Simpson is facing a maximum sentence of 20 years in jail.
He will be sentenced in January.
